About Christine
Hi, I’m Christine Culling.
Having qualified as a counsellor in 1999 I hadn’t found a modality that I wanted to specialise in. I liked, used and had done further training in Client Centred, Narrative, Interactive Drawing Therapy, NLP, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, TA, EFT and more. But for me something was missing.
I was very happy working at Wellington High School and Catholic Social Services.
During this time I was an active GAIN faciltator - GAIN is a education programme for parents and children aged 10yrs and up. We look at self esteem, communication, boundaries, areas of responsibility, parenting and being in a family.
I was also a "Companion" for the Seasons for Growth programme - for children experiencing grief, loss and change. I have run anger management, self development programmes in schools for many years.
Then in early 2002 a friend (thanks Anna) introduced me to the book - "The Journey " by Brandon Bays. I was captivated by the concepts Brandon spoke of and immediately looked up the website www.thejourney.com to discover that Brandon and the team were coming to New Zealand for the first time in a few months. At this weekend in July 2002 I knew that this was what I’d been waiting for and immediately applied to do the training as an Journey Accredited Therapist . I did that in 2003 and have been using Journeywork as my main modality ever since. It is the Spiritual aspect that was missing from the other modalities that had them not feel quite right to me.
I practised full time as a Journey Practitioner and loved being at "work" every day. What a blessing to be able to sit in source all day and support people to clear issues that have been holding them back for years and years. I also still do counselling as people desire.
In late 2005 I started training as a Orion/Theta practitioner as well. This approach really supports the Journeywork. www.Thetahealing.com And in March 2007 I trained with Vianna Stibal (the founder of Thetawork) to teach 'Vianna's Rainbow Children' course.
The six years prior to doing my counselling training I was working as Executive Manager of Global Youth Foundation www.globalyouth.co.nz. I was one of the founding members of GYF and Director on the Discovery programme for teenagers and Bridging the Gap (for 8-12yr olds) for many years. I loved working with the teens/children and their parents. When I burnt out and wanted to get more balance in my life and was wondering what next for me - it was my passion for young people - the listening and talking with the teens/children that I wanted to focus on - hence the Diploma of Child and Adolescent Counselling.
I have actively been on my own personal journey since the early 80’s- having attended many workshops over the years - each one leading me towards where I am right now in my life.
The workshop that changed the direction of my life was "Money and You" in 1990 - as this was where I heard about and then joined the group of people who wanted to bring the Discovery programme to NZ and the Global Youth Foundation was born.
I began meditating in the early ’80’s and have continued that practice on and off since. I have participated in Vipassana 10 day silent sittings a few times since 1996. I love to exercise (well most days) and in 1981 ran my first marathon - running five between then and 1986 and just one more in 2002 - that was special though - it was New York - a long held dream/goal of mine. I love Blues music. Travel has become a passion in recent years also. In 2004 I was to Southern India for a month to help facilitate a 2 day Journey workshop for delegates of the International Transactional Analysis Conference in Bangalore, then visit my son and his partner in Mysore and explore a little. The most recent was in March 2010 when I went to Egypt and Jordan with Victoria Hamilton from Life Perfect World followed by a trip to UK to see cousins while so close!!
I have two wonderful adult children. In July 2005 my first grandchild was born - a girl!! The second granddaughter was born in mid April 08!!! Very exciting. I love my role and Grandmamma.
I’m told I am an excellent listener and people often tell me when they first meet me that I make them feel safe.
I can help you to explore your inner self and put behind you the issues that are holding you back.
As you can see I have a lot of experience helping kids, teenagers and adults to become contented, happy and succesfull.
In August 2006 my husband and I moved to Te Horo on the Kapiti Coast. We love the community here. In Feb 09 we moved into our newly built house on nine acres of land here in Te Horo.
In March 2007 I joined a team of people to bring the stepUP programme to Palmerston North. StepUP was a two day programme that inspires and motivates 14-18yr olds. I finished with them in August 2008.
A precessional effect of building the house etc was that I needed to get some regular paid employment - so - In September 2008 I took up a position at the Otaki Children's Health Camp as Support Services Team Leader. We have 21 children who come to the camp for periods of 4-6 weeks - they are children who need support in developing healthy routines in their lives. They attend school while at camp and their parents have the opportunity to attend a parent workshop to support the child when they get home. There is support for the family after they have attended camp. A great service..
As a result I see clients at home in Te Horo on weekends and some evenings. People seem to enjoy the one hour drive up the Kapiti Coast from Wellington and take advantage of the wonderful shopping in Otaki just 5 minutes away.
I am not running my one day workshops at the moment.
